     Introduction

Systems are made up of individual parts that work together and are usually
connected to one or more other systems. If one part of the system is damaged,
the system will not function well or may not function at all. These characteristics
are true of systems in the human body. The human body is a complex system of
interdependent parts that work together—understanding how these parts work help
us to understand the whole system.
